Kung Fu Workshops: The Spear, Iron Breathing Form and Iron Palm Conditioning

Special kung fu workshops are a great way to learn new techniques such as the spear, iron breathing form and iron palm conditioning.

Easter holidays at the Golden Lion Academy saw us training with Sifu Steeve Kiat at the Rowville Centre. The day was spent literally in a whirl learning the 32 Spear form. Anyone who has trained with Sifu Steeve will tell you just how good a teacher he really is (patience is his middle name). At the end we could all Lan Na Zha (a common technique of the spear form) with the best of them and had a lot of fun learning the Spear.

The following day, on the Sunday, saw 16 die-hards with Sigung Richard, assisted by Sihing Steven Orloff, at our Murrumbeena Centre, to do Iron hands conditioning and learn the Iron breathing form. What a buzz! We learnt all types of special breathing used to strengthen the body and all gained a new appreciation of this very special art that we will spend a lifetime to learn.

You can see Sihing Steven Orloff demonstrating some Iron Palm conditioning methods in the photos.

The Iron Wire breathing form is something I recommend everyone take the time to learn. It is something you can do the privacy of your home with not a lot of space. It incorporates strength of inner self as well as perfect harmony and movement. Truly a very special form.

Special mention must be made to Demetri of Murrumbeena Centre. He was the only one brave enough to perform the whole Iron wire breathing form by himself – Bravo Demitri!

And the last word is from Grant (from Murrumbeena) who summed up the experience the best. “Where too much Kung Fu is barely enough. The more we learn, the more we realise how much more there is to learn.”

Thank you to our instructors for a truly challenging and fun weekend.
