Kung Fu Special School Holiday Programme 2009

Kung Fu at the Golden Lion: Over two days during term 1 school holidays 2009, a few kids and their parents participated in a new school holiday program. There were two main things that we learnt – Chi Kung Five Animal movement and Self Defence.

Chi Kung

In the Chi Kung session we were taught by SiGung Charles Tsui-Po and SiJie Chris Everett. We learnt movements of the monkey, bird, tiger, bear and the deer. Each animal technique had their special hand movements and breathing method. The group felt relaxed and calm after the workshop and hope that it will help us with our school studies.

Self Defence

In self defence we learnt basic moves that were effective for the street. One of the moves was, if you got pushed on the ground, you would move around on your back so the opponent could not kick you in the body. Si Gung Richard also showed us different ways you could use a cane, walking stick or umbrella to protect yourself.

Feedback

Here’s what some participants had to say about the workshops:

Lani Trevena (age 11) – “It was good to learn new things and experience new techniques.”

Professor Harry Goldberg (age 53) – “The KF and Chi Kung were both very different and very enjoyable. I was amazed how effective the techniques were.”

Ashleigh Tsui-Po
Junior KF student, Berwick
