Kung Fu Training Tips
For Self Defence or Sparring

Below are some introductory kung fu training tips to consider in non-contact sparring. You may find it useful to use in self defence situations too.

1. No emotional content

Anger will cloud your mind. The mind must be clear and your body relaxed to perform at an optimum level.

2. React automatically to the situation

Hesitation fails, reaction succeeds.

3. Spar with strategies and versatility

Know your principles of fighting; your technique will come automatically and don’t fight everybody the same way.

4. Maintain self respect and self control

These are the trademarks of the world’s greatest Chinese martial arts legends.

5. Use your instinct and best techniques

For effectiveness, your combinations must be instinctive.

6. Have an eagle eye

You need to observe your opponent at all times. Watch him closely and respond appropriately to each situation.

7. Perfect your timing and distance

Combinations usually work if properly executed with speed, power and correct body position.

8. Have a target in mind

This will demonstrate the accuracy of your technique.

9. Focus on a vital pressure point for maximum result
