About Kung Fu Master Sifu Steeve Kiat
Kung Fu Master Sifu Steeve Kiat started his martial arts training at an early age and as a 14 year-old, he began his journey to be one of the masters in Kung Fu at the Golden Lion Academy. He has been practising his art at the Academy for 25 years. As one of the very few, Sifu Steeve is privileged to have trained under the tutelage of the Tsui Po family, the Grand Master Dai Sifu Dr Pier Tsui-Po, SiGung Charles Tsui-Po and SiGung Richard Tsui-Po, all respected masters within the martial arts industry in Australia and overseas. Throughout his journey, Sifu Steeve became very proficient in his chosen martial art and accomplished all the requirements at the academy to reach his 4th degree Gold Belt. In November 2007, Sifu Steeve was bestowed his 6th degree Gold Belt by the Grand Master Dai Sifu Pier Tsui Po for his continuing achievements and contributions to the academy. Sifu Steeve has travelled many times to China to broaden his skills at both the Beijing University of Physical Education and the famous Beijing Wushu Institute. His extensive skills can be attributed to the training he received under the guidance of legendary Wushu coaches Master Wu Bin and Master Pan Qin Fu. In October 1988, Sifu Steeve was one the first Australian representative to compete as an all rounder in the 4th World Wushu Invitational Championship Festival in Hangzhou China. He competed in the bare hands Southern Fist routine – “Nan Quan”, weaponry routines of the Northern Broadsword – “Dao” and Northern Cudgel – “Gun”. In 1990, he again competed as an all rounder in the International Wushu Tournament in Hong Kong where he achieved his highest score of 8.8 in the Northern Broadsword – “Dao” section, only to miss out by 0.2 be amongst the top 10 competitors in the world. Sifu Steeve retired from international competitions after the 1997 Rome Italy World Championships where he competed again as an all rounder. This time he participated in the Spear routine – “Qiang”, the Southern Fist routine – “Nan Quan” and the Northern Broadsword – “Dao”. So far Sifu Steeve remains the only all rounder competitor to have been selected and represented Australia 3 times in the World Wushu international competitions. Sifu Steeve has since coached many competitors for local tournaments and several have been selected to represent Australia in International and Traditional Wushu Championships. Some of his students were successful in winning gold, silver and bronze medals at the 2004 Traditional Wushu Festival in Zhengzhou, China. Other students have won many local and national competitions. Sifu Steeve also trained athletes for the 2008 Australian Kung Fu and Wushu Federation Championships, where a group of his students at the Golden Lion Academy won 6 gold medals, 5 silver medals and one student declared the Grand Champion in traditional Kung Fu. With his extensive skills and knowledge of the art that Sifu Steeve practices and teaches, the classes he teaches at the Golden Lion Academy are always full of enthusiasm.
