Kung Fu Martial arts Classes in
Berwick, Rowville and Murrumbeena
Melbourne, Australia

Kung Fu martial arts for self defence and fitness at the Golden Lion Academy aims to offer specialised training that is targeted to your interest and which is also commensurate with your abilities. This will help you be the best you can be in your chosen field and help you improve faster and quicker.

There are four types of Kung Fu martial arts lessons you can choose once you become a member at Golden Lion:

1. Core Curriculum - Black Belt Programme
2. Specialised International Competitions Class (Bare hands and Weapons)
3. Specialised Dim Mak Pressure Points Class
4. Kung Fu Programme For Children

Core Curriculum Classes - Black Belt programme

These are traditional Kung Fu classes for better health, fitness and self-defence. It is a complete mind and body programme that builds you to Black Belt level and beyond. It has been designed to give maximum benefits over a period of four years. Even one year training will produce gains, which are reinforced as each year goes by.

Every student of the Academy trains in this programme. Here's what you'll learn and enjoy:

  • Self-Defence applications against a knife, stick or unarmed assailant. You learn subtle circular positioning movements that off-balance your opponents by using their force to your advantage. This sharpens your reflexes, judgement, timing and improves your speed so that you can defend yourself.
  • Breathing and Meditation forms, which teach you to breathe properly and prevent respiratory diseases such as asthma. You learn mind control exercises to relieve stress.
  • Animal forms: various punches, blocks, kicks and stances are used in these forms to build strength and flexibility. These are based on the movements of the Tiger, Dragon, Snake, Leopard and Crane.
  • Weaponry: From your very first week at training, you learn the cudgel to further improve coordination and strength. Knowing the techniques of the cudgel is handy because you may use a broom to defend yourself. You can also learn a variety of weapons.
  • Dim Mak pressure points for self defence
  • Golden Lion's Shaolin Dummies allow you to practise your self-defence techniques at full power and speed without hurting yourself. This is special equipment unique to Golden Lion and is not available elsewhere.
  • You will also develop the character, attitude and discipline you need to succeed in life. At Golden Lion you'll learn to further develop the finer human traits such as respect, patience, perseverance, humbleness and calmness.
  • Iron Palm training and Chinese Lion Dance Ceremonies are also taught.

Martial arts Tournaments Class (Bare Hands and Weapons)

This is a specialised class. It is an additional class to the kung fu core curriculum classes. The class focuses on specialised Bare Hands Routines, Weapon Routines and Essential techniques for competing in martial arts tournaments. It does not include bag and dummy work or combat such as sparring or self-defence.

To join this team, you must already be doing at least one class a week in the Core Curriculum (see number one option) to learn overall skills that you will need in the Competition class. Two classes per week in the Core Curriculum are required if you are serious in competing in tournaments.

The fee for this class is separate to all other memberships. Anyone irrespective of experience can enrol in this class. Give it a go. You won't know unless you try.

Dim Mak Pressure Points Class

While dim mak is included in the Core Curriculum classes, it is an additional class to the core curriculum and it focuses entirely on the study of pressure points defence.

This is also a specialised class consisting of intermediate to advanced dim mak. The class is taught by our Dai Sifu, Grandmaster Dr Pier Tsui-Po. It includes the study of pressure points, combat methods, practical applications for self-defence, iron fist and iron palm conditioning, plus Chi building healing forms that builds inner strength, prevent illness and promote better health. For safety, contact to pressure points during combat is avoided.

Anyone can enrol in this class provided that s/he has had prior (and proper) martial arts training on a regular basis that included learning and practising all important martial arts techniques, which is necessary for this dim mak class.

An interview with one of the masters of the academy is required before you enrol in this class.

Tuition fee for this class is separate to all other memberships.

Please note that students who wish to join this class MUST have a copy of the Grandmaster's Dim Mak Manual, The Art and Science of Deadly Pressure Point Fighting before they begin their dim mak training.

We recommend that you familiarise yourself with the contents of the manual at least one week before you begin your dim mak training.

Golden Lion is the leader in this field. With Dim Mak you increase your power and gain sharper focus with your techniques. You'll know exactly where to strike in self-defence so that you use minimum force to get maximum power.

Kung Fu Programme for Children (girls and boys)

Through this tailored children's program, each student is supported and encouraged to achieve their personal best, at an individual pace:

  • the physical aspects of the program help to develop fitness, flexibility, coordination and strength.
  • the program increases self esteem and confidence; the student can visually see, through weekly entries in their personal training books by their instructor, what they have accomplished, how far they have come and where they are going.
  • the class structure and origins of kung fu reinforce many principles including integrity, honesty, patience, tolerance, and respect, for the student themselves and to others.
  • the syllabus and curriculum are designed specifically for children, allowing them to graduate from beginner through to advanced level in a supportive, safe and friendly environment.
The following are Curriculum aims for each Child:
  • Each student to achieve their highest potential, in and out of class.
  • All students experience a supportive and welcoming atmosphere, from instructors and students alike.
  • All students receive individual attention, enabling them to progress at their own pace.
  • Provide a well-balanced curriculum fostering physical, personal and mental well-being and growth.
  • Provide a well-planned syllabus that allows students to progress from beginner through to advanced belt levels, while maintaining international standards.
