Kung Fu Certification: Meet the Three new 1st Degree Chinese Martial Arts Black Belts
Following is a brief training history of three kung fu (KF) students from the 29 Intrepid Street, Berwick 3806 Australia centre who successfully attained their black belts on 12 December 2008. Here are feedback on their Chinese martial arts experiences.
From left to right: SiGung Richard Tsui-Po, Warren Gardiner, SiHing Brett Munckton, Bruce Ryan and Sifu Steeve KiatWarren Gardiner Being interested in martial arts from a young age, I initially joined the academy in 1997 after some years of studying karate. I trained at Berwick for around two years before taking a break to focus on my VCE studies. After taking a slightly longer than intended break (about three years) so as to accommodate my taxing Arts student lifestyle, I decided it was time to return to training which I realised I had missed greatly. I have benefited from learning KF in ways that have exceeded my expectations. It has brought me fitness, strength and agility. It has instilled self discipline, and shown me the rewards of dedication and hard work. As I further my training, I hope to expand my understanding of this engrossing art form and continue to meet the challenges that are set for me and by me. Brett Munckton (Si Hing) I commenced training in January 2002; to receive coaching in KF from inspiring and motivating masters and instructors. During my training I have gained significant improvement in my self confidence, health and fitness. In addition I am able to focus better at work and achieve set goals. My purpose is to further improve my techniques and continue to participate in state and national competitions. In teaching I would like to assist students to improve and reach theirpersonal objectives. I also intend to continue to promote the practice of KF to others so that they too can benefit from it. Special note: As an accredited instructor Brett is awarded the title Si Hing. It is recommended that you address Brett with this title. Bruce Ryan Seeking an activity to keep fit, I joined Golden Lion in May 2002 for my first experience in martial arts. I had played many ball sports previously, but KF training employed many different movements and required a different kind of fitness. Over time, this proved a great asset in coping with the hectic schedule that work and a new family demand, allowing me to maintain energy levels, handle stress, and avoid sickness. With Golden Lion Kung Fu, you definitely get out of it what you put in. Passing my black belt examination is an achievement I am very proud of, and the masters at Golden Lion have been a great source of motivation and encouragement throughout. Looking forward, I feel I am at the beginning again, armed with basic techniques that I will continue to improve and master, and full of anticipation for new ideas and skills to learn. My aim is to learn new philosophies in applications, further improve my fitness, and continue kung fu training as an integral part of my health, well-being, and lifestyle.
