Chinese Martial Arts Certification
Kung Fu Gradings

At the Golden Lion Academy, martial arts grading certification in kung fu is aimed at maintaining a high standard of skill and knowledge in its graded students, thereby making a significant contribution to the Golden Lion Academy’s credibility as a Centre of Excellence in Chinese Kung Fu.

Certification is obtained by doing a grading, which is an examination of your progress. It allows your teacher to personally monitor your strengths and weaknesses so that they can make recommendations for further improvement.

Chinese martial arts gradings are conducted in group sessions according to your belt level. You will need to perform all the techniques listed on your gradings syllabus at the recommended standard set by the Golden Lion Academy.

Evaluations by Kung Fu examiners are unbiased and fair. Marking is consistent across the range of examiners. Training workshops are regularly held to maintain standardisation across examiners.

At each level of grading, each area of knowledge and skill, each technique, there is only one standard, regardless of age, physical condition, gender, or any other factors.

While it is the instructor’s responsibility to make sure that the student is up to the standard prior to taking the examination, it is important for students to ensure they have met the criteria to be eligible for certification. Below are some guidelines to follow to ensure you are eligible for certification.

  • Gradings should not be taken lightly. Check with your Sifu to see whether you are ready to sit for the grading
  • Make sure you complete at least the minimum number of lessons required and have trained regularly within the time frame required for the grading
  • Make sure you have studied your own training manual for this grading, and bring the manual with you
  • Bring your personal training apparatus for the grading, for example, cudgel, sword, or any other weapon
  • Bring your protective equipment and make sure shin guards, forearm protectors, mitts, groin guard etc are clean and hygienic
  • Bring a towel and water bottle
  • Make sure all projects are completed one week before the grading
  • Make sure you have completed and handed your written assignment to your Sifu at least one week before the grading

Central to the Chinese Kung Fu certification programme is the enhancement of physical and mental well-being. Our Kung Fu programme works to improve coordination, balance, agility, strength and courage.

If you would like to train in regular classes and become graded or certified, please call us on our central telephone number 9796-1066 for class times and fees or email us through our contact-us form.
