World Chinese Martial Arts Tournament Results 2004:

Fifteen students of the Golden Lion Academy were chosen to represent Australia to compete at the Inaugural World Traditional Wushu Festival held in Zhengzhou, China, October 2004. Wushu is a generic term that encompasses the traditional Chinese arts of Kung Fu and Tai Chi.

The festival attracted over 2,000 competitors from 60 countries and was held in two stadiums built specially for the event. Athletes of various age groups, from Children to Veterans, competed in both traditional and modern Wushu. There were over 100,000 people at the opening ceremony, which displayed traditional arts like Beijing opera as well as modern popular music over two and a half hours.

The students of Golden Lion won a total number of 9 Gold, 16 Silver and 4 Bronze medals. In addition, the Gold Cup for the best team event was also won.

In the past 15 years, Golden Lion has regularly had their students selected for the Australian Team in World Championships. In an address to members, the principal of the academy, Grandmaster Dr Pier Tsui-Po, said today “This result is only possible with a team of highly trained and experienced instructors who offer consistently high quality training programmes in fully equipped facilities”.
